Earlier this year, CatchLight announced the expansion of its collaborative model for visual journalism with the establishment of the CatchLight Local Visual Desk in California-a $2 million, three-year investment to address the decline of visual journalism, advance visual representation in local media, and serve critical community information needs in California. In 2022, CatchLight will be offering up to five full-time staff fellowships for visual journalists to become part of the expanded CatchLight Local Visual Desk-to create community-centered visual journalism at the local level. CatchLight Local pairs local newsrooms with its program Fellows, visual journalists and assignment editors, who have a direct connection to the communities they cover to provide inclusive, in-depth, accurate, and locally contextualized information to the public.

Through a collaboration with Report for America (RFA), CatchLight is excited to announce the opening of the first set of three full-time staff fellowship positions and newsroom partners for the CatchLight Local Visual Desk in CA.
